SportGrit.com is a newly launched website designed as a tool for amateur athletes to express their performance through social media. The ultimate goal is to reach athletes throughout the United States to provide a platform for consolidating their stats and comparing them with other players. This is to the benefit of athletes’ individual performance as well as an excellent database for coaches and recruiters to access. The idea driving the plan forward is not far removed from the likes of Facebook, or LinkedIn.
Facebook has taken the world by storm connecting people across the globe & has made the term ‘social media marketing’ commonplace. What started out as an exclusively academic tool is now the internationally agreed upon social-rendezvous site. Even more impressive is this market has not reached saturation. In Facebook’s wake are rich market segments, waiting to be catered to. One segment is aspiring athletes. Facebook has become the accepted social medium, and LinkedIn the professional version. LinkedIn has many layers that include employment history, education, recommendations, and more. SportsGrit will be a similar space for athletes to develop their skills and progress their careers. There are a tremendous variety of competitive sports played today. There is also an obvious need for a consolidation point for athletes to post stats & various media, in order to be recognized and ultimately recruited. SportsGrit is that space.
There is a generation that is largely defined by social media – Generation Y, or Millennials. It is arguable that what Facebook has introduced is not privy to this one generation, but in fact has given the world one cyber stage on which to perform. All ages are active on this medium. So much so that there are frequent reports of younger users temporarily switching to Twitter in order to evade Mom, Dad, Aunts, Uncles, and yes – Grandparents. The whole world likes a stage. Transfer this understanding to athletes. Imagine how well this segment will respond to a unified platform on which to consolidate performance data so that competitors, team mates, coaches, and recruiters all have visibility and access. SportGrit is the tool for athletes looking to advance their skills and their careers. Likewise, this is an ideal space for recruiters looking to compare talent, and make their jobs that much easier. The real machine behind Facebook is not simply its popularity; it is the data it accumulates. In a sense, we all work for Facebook. SportsGrit will become a rich resource for anyone associated with sports; be it marketing, recruiting, training, development, or simply showing support for a favored athlete.
SportsGrit.com is the result of the combined talents of three individuals from varying, yet
complementary, backgrounds. George Tenety, Seth Jacobs, and Ramon Paul Alvarez. have an excellent talent pool to draw upon that includes experience in finance, operations, IU/UX design, software development, computer science, information technology, and international e-Commerce. Their genuine interest in sports and technology has merged to create SportsGrit. The out-of-the- gate plan is to introduce the tool into target markets, and spread nationwide incrementally. Given the breadth of competitive sports in the U.S. alone, it’s easy to understand why. Recall that Facebook was exclusively a college networking tool in its beginning. Very wisely, different markets were accessed, tested, and re- tested to be certain the product being offered was effective.
The overwhelming conclusion is that social media is highly effective in either direction. Users like to input information which then becomes a much sought after commodity. SportsGrit is social media evolved. The target market is defined, and the goal is clear & and beneficial to all involved. The data it accumulates combined with the powerful audience we already know exists, has more than staying power. It has true grit. It is SportsGrit.com.
