This is a great partnership between two companies that have been involved in retail pharmacy for decades.
Lake Forest, IL (PRWEB) April 17, 2012
Kirby Lester, LLC, the world’s leading pharmacy automation provider, announced a long-term agreement to serve as a primary dispensing technology supplier for Fruth Pharmacy, an innovative pharmacy corporation operating across West Virginia and Ohio.
Fruth Pharmacy, based in Point Pleasant, WV, installed a custom combination of Kirby Lester dispensing technology in every one of its 25 pharmacies. Avoiding the old-fashioned method of dropping the same cookie-cutter machine in all of its locations, Fruth and Kirby Lester management took a highly analytical approach. Each location is now using one or two different Kirby Lester dispensing systems, from robotics to simple tablet counters. The result is that each Fruth location has the perfect level of technology to fit that pharmacy’s needs.
“Not all people are the same. And not all pharmacies are the same even in a chain environment. So why would we want the same robot or the same dispensing device at every store, just for the sake of convenience?” says Lynne Fruth, President and Chairman of the Board. “We have a wide spectrum of daily prescription volumes, available floor space and configurations, staffing levels and customer demographics among our 25 locations. We wanted to partner with a technology company that offered a full suite, so we could pick-and-choose.”
Fruth removed older pharmacy robots at several locations and installed a combination of four Kirby Lester systems:
- KL60 compact robotic dispenser
- KL20 counting and verification system for accurate dispensing and error-prevention
- KL30 (based on the KL20 with automated dispensing and double-count feature)
- KL15e compact tablet counter
For decades, Fruth stores built a reputation for taking care of their customers. In 2011, Ms. Fruth and her pharmacy operations team of Craig Kimble and Tim Weber began an analysis of how technology could help them achieve several corporate goals of increased inventory control, improved turnaround time, and improved customer care. By installing a custom combination of Kirby Lester devices at each location, the Fruth team was able to solve many of the needs of each pharmacy to ultimately free up staff to do what they do best: take care of customers.
“This is a great partnership between two companies that have been involved in retail pharmacy for decades,” says Garry Zage, R.Ph., President and CEO of Kirby Lester. “Jack Fruth opened his first pharmacy in 1952, and his daughter Lynne has continued to successfully grow the family business. And Kirby Lester has been a pioneer in automation since it invented its first automatic tablet counter in 1971.”
