From raising a family and teaching school to co-starring in movies with Albert Brooks and Jack Lemmon, Art Frankel has led an amazing life – and come through it all with humor, wisdom and more than a few lessons learned.
In his new memoir, “Flew by the Seat of My Pants: A Few Crashes, No Casualties” (published by iUniverse), Frankel tells his infspirational story. He built and sailed his own boat to Hawaii, and he survived a raging wildfire that reduced his home to cinders. He lived through the Great Depression and World War II. He has been a soldier, a student, a teacher, a salesman, an actor and a traveler.
An excerpt from “Flew by the Seat of My Pants”:
“The voyage to Hawaii was just one of my many travels. During my time at Lincoln, I made three different trips to Europe with the Foreign Study League. For the first two I was in charge of ten or twelve kids; on the third trip I was in charge of the whole tour. We hit all the places you’d want to see: Rome, Capri, Firenze, Bern, Munich, England. The first time I ever saw ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ was in a West End Theater in London. It was very touching for me to see because the whole story reflects the world that my parents came from in Europe. We also saw ‘The Man in the Glass Booth,’ stayed in castles, saw museums, really had a ball. And of course, I had a couple of adventures that weren’t exactly in the tour brochure.”
A self-help book in the form of a poignant and amusing memoir, “Flew by the Seat of My Pants” is the inspirational, motivational story of a regular guy who, with determination, persistence, the support of his beloved wife, Shirley, and a healthy dose of dumb luck, accomplished things that most people only dream of.
Frankel’s story is funny, moving, and packed with keen insights and practical words of wisdom that anyone can use to turn their own dreams into reality.
