The tournament will include tribute programming to honor the Spring 2012 Pritchard Mining Class of the Scholars Program. The Remember The Miners Scholars Program was created in 2011 to provide financial aid to miners, dependents of miners, and students pursuing higher education in the mining industry. Scholarships are awarded twice annually during spring and fall semesters. In its first year, the Scholars Program awarded $25,000.
“Our organization is based on the grassroots support and efforts of members of the coal community,” began Jason Parsons, President of Remember The Miners. “We’re calling for volunteers to help support this first-time event for Remember The Miners, providing aid in creating a seamless, fun tournament that raises awareness and funds for men and women of the coal community.”
NFL player Randy Moss, NBA star Jason Williams, Remember The Miners Honorary Chairman and head coach of WVU’s basketball team Bob Huggins, former WVU football coach Don Nehlen, and former WVU basketball player Joe Mazzulla are also lending their support to this event, and will be playing as VIPs at the Remember The Miners Tribute Golf Classic Presented by Little General.
Interested volunteers should contact Tyler Gates, Director of Operations, at tyler(at)remembertheminers(dot)org or 703.943.7202.
