Joseph Lawton, AIA, CCM, has been named HNTB’s new national construction management practice leader. As part of HNTB’s program delivery initiative, Lawton will lead the construction management practice across HNTB’s infrastructure markets.
Lawton’s expertise spans a wide range of design and construction activities and he has overseen complex programs in excess of $1 billion nationally and $10 billion internationally. He also has served as the sole person responsible for the capture, start-up and leadership for multiple program management, design-build, construction management-at-risk and construction management agent projects executed across the U.S., Europe, China, North Africa and the Middle East.
“Joe brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our construction management practice,” said Scott Smith, director of strategic initiatives. “His leadership in program and construction management will complement HNTB’s services and strengthen HNTB’s practice across the country.”
Lawton is a founding member of the U.S. General Services Administration’s National Construction Excellence Peer Program, conducting reviews on new construction, historical renovations and building modernizations of courthouses, office buildings and border stations. His advice has been sought during the development of appropriations and acquisitions strategies.
Lawton has served multiple roles for the Construction Management Association of America such as a member of the board of directors, the board of governors and a conference chair since the beginning days of the organization. He also has served on multiple committees locally and nationally for the American Institute of Architects, the American Bar Association and the Project Management Institute.
