Education Expert Mary Schreck Reveals How Creative Teaching Boosts Student Success

Mary Schreck

Mary Schreck details how creative best practices have been used to elevate student achievement—boosting proficiency rates to nearly ten times in a single school year.

Professional development company, School Improvement Network, last week released an interview with author and education consultant Mary Kim Schreck, in which she outlines the best practices that inevitably produce student achievement. The interview is available on School Improvement Network’s online professional development platform, PD 360.

Throughout the interview, Schreck discusses the research that she has conducted, and what it has reveled about how to engage those students who are difficult to reach. As she does this, she details how creative best practices have been used to elevate student achievement—boosting proficiency rates to nearly ten times in a single school year.

“Creativity is one of the keys to increase student achievement by getting students to do what you want them to do anyway, but it’s so much more fun, and it’s so much more alive,” explains Schreck. “Too many teachers think that creativity is all about the gal down the street who has the really creative bulletin boards, or the artsy-fartsy teacher, but it’s not. There is a whole side of your brain that needs to be exercised so that you’re dealing with a full brain and not just one piece.”
