According to recent reports, the average cell phone has 18 times more harmful bacteria than the handle on a male public toilet- including E. Coli, staph and MSRA. It doesn’t stop there: researchers found that 1 in 6 phones have fecal matter on them. To break up this bacteria party found on the world’s cell phones, a young start-up out of Las Vegas, NV introduces PhoneSoap, currently available through KickStarter.
PhoneSoap is a universal cell phone charger that simultaneously sanitizes a cell phones using UV-C light electromagnetic radiation that is used in hospitals and clean rooms around the world. This light penetrates the bacteria’s cell wall, disrupting its DNA and killing it with 99.9% effectiveness.
How does it work? Plug the PhoneSoap into the wall like any other phone charger. Easily open the PhoneSoap box, and plug in your phone to charge. When closed, PhoneSoap takes care of the rest, sanitizing a phone with UV-C light for 3-5 minutes at a time. Since no heat or liquid is involved, and UV light exposure is brief, so there is no risk of damaging the phone’s plastics or internal components. PhoneSoap’s unique design places a UV-C light on the top and on the bottom of the box so that the UV rays surround the phone for complete sanitization and complete safety for the user.
Smartphone users have a habit of charging their phones every night and using their phone as an alarm. Since most users don’t want to add a phone to an ever growing list of things to clean, PhoneSoap positions itself to enhance a preexisting habit. Instead of plugging a phone into the wall to charge, plug it into PhoneSoap. When the alarm goes off in the morning, augmented by the PhoneSoap box, the phone won’t only be charged, but it will also be clean. The phone is cleaned by doing what is already done every day.
