Dolata’s healthy business journey began after she had been selected for jury duty.
“When I was on jury duty, there were about 80 of us who were awaiting our chance to escape or sit and serve. At one point we went to the break room and I noticed several people were glancing in the vending machines. These were the typical vending machines that were filled with soda, junk food and all around poor choices. I started to ask some of the fellow jurors what they were looking for specifically…the answers were all the same! ‘Something good to eat, less salt, healthier choices.’ Nothing was appealing enough for them to actually purchase an item. Instead we just walked away!”
In Dolata’s case many people opted not to eat anything instead of selecting an unhealthy bag of chips or candy bar. However, this isn’t always the case. Many people feel obligated at times to select the unhealthy choice because that is all there is. This is when Dolata noticed something surely should be done to combat this unhealthy attitude.
“I looked at the choices for vending wherever I went and watched people ‘settle’ for something unhealthy rather than nothing,” Dolata says. “It made me think there must be some sort of alternative.”
Dolata set out to find it. It wasn’t until her son approached her with Sprout Healthy Vending that she really clicked with the idea. “My son brought the concept to our attention and it sounded like a good one, it was definitely something we could get behind. After I talked to friends, family and potential sites, I felt uplifted about the opportunity. Healthy vending was no longer an oxymoron!”
“Now when people in my community see the choices, compare the ingredients and realize the products taste great - they jump at the chance to get involved. I couldn’t be more exited to offer these healthy products to my town,” Dolata shares.
As a ballroom dancer for over 15 years, Dolata doesn’t just attribute her healthy business success to the nutritious products themselves but also to the shocking outcome of what happens when you don’t select healthy options. “The saying is true, ‘you are what you eat.’ And the public is more aware now than ever of the alarming obesity rates in our country. Timing is everything and it couldn’t be a better time for natural and organic vending machines!”
“From the YMCA’s to the gyms to the colleges – providing better alternatives – how can this concept lose?” Dolata asks.
Co-Founder Chris Wyland chimes in, “No matter the location, Sprout Healthy Vending is doing exceptionally well all over the country with over 70 operators in 40 markets and 1,000 individual locations projected by the end of this year. There is no exception when it comes to Dolata’s machines in Jamestown especially with the lack of healthy options out there right now. This is the perfect time to capitalize on the opportunity at hand.”
“The prospect of fulfilling my son’s goal of getting out of a cubicle is very motivating since he is a nature and health nut himself,” Dolata explains. “Knowing about healthy living and experiencing what can happen with good eating motivates me in many ways. I cook better, snack better, and then I can recommend these lifestyle choices to other people and spread the healthy habits!”
