The Internet’s oldest directory thanks users for 18 years of success, and marks this milestone birthday with new product features.

Since 1994, Best of the Web has empowered the online community with meaningful guidance when navigating through the vast and ever-growing depths of cyberspace. The Internet’s oldest directory has come a long way since its start 18 years ago when it provided a platform for users to nominate and vote for best-in-class websites.

Over the years, BOTW has evolved into a series of comprehensive directories including the classic Web Directory as well as the UK Directory, Blog Directory, Local Directory, Online Degree Directory, Senior Housing Directory, and Be Green, their newest addition focusing on environmental issues and discussion. The BOTW directories currently contain well over 100,000 categories in which millions of listings are precisely placed. Thousands of relevant and unique sites, hand-picked by the talented BOTW Editorial Staff, are added to the Web Directory every month.

Not many sites make it to their eighteenth birthday, so marking 18 successful years online is cause for celebration. Best of the Web is commemorating the occasion by adding brand new features to all directory products. For the first time, customers can add links to social networking profiles alongside directory listings and sponsorships. This means that, along with earning a business website the desirable BOTW seal of approval, users can now directly link to their brand’s corresponding Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+ profiles.

"As an Internet pioneer founded in 1994, our company is forever linked to the evolution of the Internet and e-commerce," says Brian Prince, CEO of Best of the Web. "As such, we are excited today to add social linking functionality to our directory listing products. This product enhancement should prove to be very useful to both our users and advertisers alike."

Maintaining relevant and reliable directories requires not only a dedicated and talented staff, but also user input. Therefore these 18 years of success are attributed not only to its editors, developers, and managers who make the directories run smoothly and efficiently, but also its loyal users. Internet users are always encouraged to engage with editors and BOTW representatives through the BOTW Blog or social networks to ensure that Best of the Web remains an up-to-date and trustworthy resource.

Best of the Web invites users to join them in celebrating this milestone all day long. Visit @BOTW on Twitter, or the BOTW Blog ( to learn more about how to join in the celebration and partake in today’s birthday festivities.
