Social commerce is a game-changer, not simply for eCommerce but more broadly for search as well

TheFind, an eCommerce innovator, announced today the addition of Scott Silverman to its Board of Advisors. Silverman who is also a Member of the Board for Shop.org, was most recently a co-founder and VP of Marketing at iFeelGoods, Executive Director of Shop.org and also VP of Internet Retailing for the National Retail Federation. The company noted that the addition comes just a few weeks in front of a major new foray into social commerce, an area highly relevant to Silverman’s industry expertise and relationships.
"We're excited to have Scott contribute his digital retail experience and insights as a member of TheFind's Board of Advisors during this key juncture - not just for TheFind, but for the entire industry." said Siva Kumar, CEO of TheFind. "Facebook's potentially massive upcoming IPO places a spotlight on social commerce. We believe that the OpenGraph and the Like button in particular, represent a very large, but as yet untapped commercial opportunity for retailers."
Code-named “Glimpse”, the product is expected to use Facebook Like data from across the web to create a shopping experience driven by socially curated discovery. Leveraging the OpenGraph for social curation does away with the emphasis on search, which so far has been the primary traffic source for online shopping.
“Social commerce is a game-changer, not simply for eCommerce but more broadly for search as well,” noted Silverman. “I’m excited to join the advisory board at TheFind at this juncture because they have assembled the right team and technology to tap into the value inherent in the OpenGraph and create a discovery-based shopping experience that more accurately reflects the truly social nature of shopping.”
TheFind leverages patented product search, browse, and discovery technologies, along with data from Facebook's Open Graph, to build innovative online, tablet, and mobile shopping experiences. Ranked number 12 on the 2010 Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies, TheFind was founded in 2005 and is venture funded by Bain Capital Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures. TheFind is a San Francisco and Silicon Valley-based company.
