Dudley has always been an area for innovation, and whilst the West Midlands has been experiencing a difficult period during the recession, it’s great to see the people of Dudley showing some entrepreneurial spirit.

Company formations experts Duport Associates found that 58 new companies were formed with registered offices in Dudley in March 2012, this breaks the previous record of 56 set in March 2008.
“Dudley has always been an area for innovation,” stated Managing Director of Duport Associates, Peter Valaitis, “and whilst the West Midlands has been experiencing a difficult period during the recession, it’s great to see the people of Dudley showing some entrepreneurial spirit.”
“Dudley is particularly close to our hearts here at Duport, because it’s where our company began and how we got our name – from Dudley Port, where the business was formed in 1997.”
The Black Country town has also experienced a drop in claimants for jobseekers allowance in the quarter to February 2012, which could be due to previously unemployed people starting up new companies.
With new development initiatives targeting Dudley, there could be further, faster and more significant growth in the coming months.
Dudley is one of the towns chosen to receive £100,000 in funds from the High Street Innovation Fund. This scheme, put forward by Mary Portas, is designed to help rejuvenate high streets and allow existing businesses to flourish as well as encouraging new companies to occupy high street shops and offices.
As well as funding, the Portas Pilots scheme includes business rate concessions and changes to planning laws in order to encourage development within town centres as a priority over out of town retail parks.
With a record breaking high for company formations in March and funding and regeneration proposals confirmed for Dudley’s town centre, this could be the beginning of a sustained period of growth for the West Midlands town.
