Diabetes Supplies Company Honors Oldest Member of 180,000 Diabetes Patients Served

BrightSky announced today that their oldest diabetes member, Romaine Suffrant, has turned 105 years old. Suffrant, a Haitian American, is celebrating this special occasion at home with her daughter, granddaughter, and extended family. BrightSky is letting her have her cake and eat it too, sugar-free cake that is, because Suffrant is a person with diabetes and manages her blood glucose daily. Suffrant claims her long healthy life is a result of being surrounded by family, her faith, and living a healthy lifestyle. “Gone are the days that diabetes means having a shorter life span,” says Kendra Obrist, Senior VP Marketing & Product Management for BrightSky. “Managing blood sugar through testing, medications, education and personalized self-management support services allows persons living with diabetes of all ages to live healthier lives.” BrightSky members range from young children to the elderly, all benefit from BrightSky providing them with testing supplies, self-management resources, education, recipes, and online tools. “Following physician recommended testing and medication regimens combined with healthy living habits are key to longevity if you are managing diabetes,” says Obrist. According to the American Diabetes Association, in the U.S. there are 18.8 million persons diagnosed with diabetes, and another 58 million with pre-diabetes. As for Suffrant, she tests her blood sugar daily with the supplies provided to her by BrightSky through her Medicare benefit. “I’m proud to be BrightSky’s oldest diabetes member,” says Suffrant, “by making healthy choices, and testing with my BrightSky meter, I plan to continue to be.”
