Abbott Press, a division of Writer’s Digest, today announced author K.C. Sherwood’s young-adult novel, “Midnight at Moonglow’s,” has been chosen to receive the prestigious “Mark of Quality” distinction. The “Mark of Quality” is reserved for books published through Abbott Press that come highly recommended for style and literary merit by the Writer’s Digest editorial staff.
The “Mark of Quality” is a celebrated achievement in the writing community and provides many benefits. First, the book will be recognized in “Writer’s Digest” magazine, a respected publication since 1920, and will also be listed in Writer’s Digest’s F&W Media Catalog, which is distributed to over 200,000 subscribers. Additionally, authors receive a free pass to the annual Writer’s Digest conference and reception, where they will have the opportunity to network with other authors, agents and industry professionals.

“Midnight at Moonglow’s” is a thrilling fiction tale that centers around twelve-year-old Casey Parker, an obsessive reader who makes up for her lack of friends with her books. Faced with the school bully and other familiar adolescent struggles, she seeks refuge at Moonglow’s, her uncle Walter’s mysterious bookshop. She discovers she can magically enter any book she reads, but there are rules and consequences that are all too real. Ultimately, Casey must decide whether to face her bully or choose to make her fantasy world her new reality.

“I originally chose to self-publish ‘Midnight at Moonglow’s’ with Abbott Press because I’ve always respected and admired the ‘Writer’s Digest’ community,” said Sherwood. “It’s such an honor to have my book recognized by the ‘Mark of Quality,’ and I hope even more young readers will have the opportunity to enjoy the exciting world of Moonglow’s.”

“The Mark of Quality is the highest literary achievement an Abbott Press author can receive,” said Keith Ogorek, senior vice president of marketing at Author Solutions, Inc., the strategic publishing partner of Writer’s Digest. “K.C. Sherwood has created a thrilling fantasy novel that we believe young readers will relate to and enjoy.”

“Midnight at Moonglow’s” received an honorable mention in the 2011–2012 Los Angeles Book Festival and is ideal for readers aged nine and older. To learn more about the Writer’s Digest “Mark of Quality” and about self-publishing with Abbott Press, visit http://www.abbottpress.com.
