More than half a dozen schools located in Manhattan, The Bronx and Westchester will meet and compete in a “battle of the belters” this Friday, April 20th at 6:30 pm at the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, New York. This is the third year for Acappellooza, an annual a cappella festival which raises funds for various music-related programs. This year’s proceeds will fund music programs at Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, a Bronx-based non-profit offering a wide array of services to local children.

The event was conceived by a Horace Mann student three years ago, and is sponsored and funded in part by The Alexander Capelluto Foundation in memory of Alex Capelluto, a Horace Mann graduate and valedictorian who died in 2006 following his sophomore year at Yale University. Tragically, Capelluto was killed while riding his bicycle just a few days before he was to embark on a bicycle trip to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The Alexander Capelluto Foundation exists to inspire students to make a concrete difference in their world by providing grant funding for a project to be implemented in a community of the grant recipient's choice.

The “Acappellooza” festival will feature competitive performances by students from seven schools in the New York City metropolitan area. Performers from Convent of the Sacred Heart, Dalton, Horace Mann, Nightingale-Bamford, Rye Country Day, Scarsdale High School and Trinity are slated to appear.
