Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 24, 2012
Today, retailer Famous Footwear, in partnership with ShoeBox Recycling, introduced in-store shoe recycling for all of their customers in the Philly Metro region. With ShoeBox Recycling bins placed in all sixteen (16) store locations, shoppers are encouraged to responsibly discard of their old shoes with an instant $10 off purchase of $50 or more for participating. The goal for ShoeBox Recycling is to raise awareness and education about the need to participate regularly in shoe recycling, where all of the secondhand goods are destined for reuse. Famous Footwear jumped on the bandwagon in an effort to raise funds for Socks for Soldiers and the USO.
“Involving our customers in this type of recycling participation is a fun and easy way to make change by taking simple and meaningful steps,” said Tony Folin, District Sales Manager at Famous Footwear. “This partnership allows our community to help other people who need affordable shoes, help our city in waste disposal, help our planet overall—and best of all, all of the proceeds will go to Socks For Soldiers. It’s a win-win no matter how you look at this.” What the company lives by is: “It’s not just about doing business; it’s how we do business and making a difference”.
ShoeBox Recycling is proud to be a for-profit recycler of shoes. They have flipped the recycling triangle upside down and have mastered the most powerful ‘R,’ REUSE, with all of the shoes collected destined for reuse by those in need of affordable footwear. With over 300 million pairs of perfectly reusable shoes hitting landfills each year, they are looking to change the way people think about their shoes.
"Shoe recycling needs to become as familiar to us all and as easy to perform as bottle, can, and paper recycling,” said Lisa Pomerantz, Queen of Sole at ShoeBox Recycling. “Our collaboration with Famous Footwear is a great way to get this important message out. Their offer of an instant $10 off purchase of a new pair ($50 or more) further sweetens the deal for the consumer.”
The hope is that as customers purchase new shoes, they will simply toss their existing pair in the ShoeBox shoe bin. ShoeBox Recycling pays Famous Footwear by the pound for all shoes collected and all monies earned will go toward, Socks for Soldiers. This is a community/USO partnership to our soldiers in the Middle East. Troops deploying overseas through the USO and Famous Footwear will be handing out clean WigWam socks made in the USA to as many soldiers as possible. They have no interest in the politics in this war; only in showing support to our troops by sending love in a special thoughtful way.
“The alignment of ShoeBox Recycling, Famous Footwear and Socks for Soldiers is truly remarkable, says Folin. Our hope is that we are so successful in this region, that we can expand our efforts together.
