Xcentric Mold & Engineering, Inc., a leader in custom plastic injection molding, today announced its observation of Earth Day 2012 with its renewed commitment to maintaining environmentally-friendly manufacturing operations in the USA. Xcentric’s manufacturing facility operates all-electric injection molding machines to save energy and reduce waste.

“Manufacturers can make positive contributions to the green movement simply by focusing on repeatability and eliminating unnecessary waste from their day-to-day operations,” said Xcentric co-founder Brendan Weaver. “We want our customers to know their projects will be managed in a manner that guarantees excellence with as little impact to the environment as possible.”

Traditional hydraulic machines mold complex shapes at high productions rates and hold fairly tight tolerances of ±.001 inches. All-electric injection molding machines are more precise and hold tighter tolerances of ±.0002 inches from shot-to-shot, offering more precision and ultimately less waste.

Unlike traditional hydraulic injection molding machines that use energy while sitting idle, all-electric injection molding machines consume just enough energy for the given action. Digitally controlled, high speed and highly efficient motors guarantee a faster, cleaner and repeatable energy efficient molding process.

Xcentric was an early adopter of this technology in the 1980s; a period when many manufacturers were less concerned with industry impact to the environment. All-electric injection molding machines offer:

  • overall energy savings from 50-80% while optimizing for the highest part productivity, precision injection molding and quality
  • repeatable injection molding cycles that are 5-50% faster than hydraulic machines, require half the energy use and avoid unnecessary material processing due to additional tooling and rework
  • technology with digitally controlled motors to boost energy savings by another 20-50%
