Economic Development|Washington County has launched its newly redesigned economic development website, http://www.businessreadywi.com, as part of its marketing efforts to attract expanding and relocating businesses to the county.
The website, created by Ady Voltedge, an economic development marketing firm in Madison, Wis., features a revamped design, an interactive sites and buildings map, and locational advantages that set the county apart from other regions.
One highlight of the EDWC website is the interactive incentive table, which allows a visitor to select a category of incentives and then view the existing programs. The table also indicates which communities offer the incentive, so companies can view what Washington County has to offer expanding or relocating businesses.
The website also features the “Location Center”, an interactive map that allows visitors to search for available sites and buildings as well view profiles for all of the communities within the county.
The Location Center is driven by ZoomProspector, an application created by GIS Planning, one of the world’s largest providers of geographic information systems to economic development organizations.
Russ Riblett of GIS Planning said ZoomProspector’s integration into the new EDWC website uses a new technology option for economic development organizations.
“The implementation of ZoomProspector Enterprise on businessreadywi.com directly integrates the GIS site selection tool within the website, providing a seamless experience for website visitors,” Riblett said. “In addition, ED|WC is now connected to a larger online ecosystem which assists businesses with making an investment in Washington County because the available properties and community information are promoted on a network of websites including ZoomProspector.com, BusinessFacilities.com, SiteSelection.com, and BXJonline.com.”
ZoomProspector is used by many Wisconsin economic development websites and is the official sites and buildings database used by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). Depending on the particular project, Ady Voltedge collaborates with ZoomProspector, another third-party system or uses their proprietary sites and buildings module for interactive mapping features.
Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, vice president of Economic and Community Development with WEDC, said the Location Center is a valuable site selection tool for businesses seeking properties and buildings in the county. Similar with WEDC’s “LocateInWisconsin” online site selection tool, Hicks-Sorensen said this gives Washington County a powerful tool to help attract new business development.
Another feature of the site according to Christian Tscheschlok, executive director of EDWC, is the fact that he or anyone else at the organization can make updates at any given moment to reflect the changes that are taking place in the county’s growing economy.
“Within five minutes of conversation with their team, I was able to go into the website and start making customizations to it,” he said. “If you’ve ever used Microsoft Word, if you’ve ever used any type of desktop publishing software at all, you’re in and customizing your website.”
