Both city and county broke records for the number of new company formations in March 2012, according to data compiled from Companies House records by formations experts Duport Associates.
In March 2012, 370 new businesses were formed with registered offices in Leicester. This is a huge increase from the previous record of 321, set in November 2011. The county of Leicestershire also experienced a new high of 546 formations, up from 543 in March 2007.
“This is an exciting time for entrepreneurs in Leicester and Leicestershire,” said Duport Associates’ Managing Director, Peter Valaitis.
“There’s a lot of positivity coming from businesses in the area, and it looks as though both start-ups and established companies are feeling optimistic about the future.”
According to a study by Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership, businesses across the area are expecting to maintain or improve company performance over the next year, showing an impressive resilience and positivity from the county’s business community.
This positivity is reflected in the high number of company formations in the area, showing that new start-up companies are feeling as encouraged and optimistic as existing organisations.
In September 2012, Leicester College will be offering courses from the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, aimed at giving young people the skills and knowledge to start up their own companies.
The courses include work experience, and students gain a BTEC Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship upon completion of the course.
With start-ups optimistic and new training available for young entrepreneurs, opportunities for businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire seem abundant.
