Eco-Seal, LLC a complete pavement maintenance service company located in Rochester, NY is excited to announce the first eco-friendly asphalt sealer product in the upstate NY region. They have secured an exclusive distributorship of Pitch Black, an eco-friendly asphalt sealer that will not harm the environment. Sold in bulk or applied by their own certified applicators, Pitch Black contains no COAL TAR, which USGS studies have shown to contain known carcinogens. Eco-Seal, LLC will ensure that customers have more choices in environmentally friendly products by providing a non-coal tar based commercial asphalt sealer for application to residential and commercial properties.
In February 2011, the USGS (United States Geological Society) released a study raising alarm about the dangers of asphalt sealers containing COAL TAR, a known carcinogen, and its effects on humans and the environment. Almost all coal tar sealers (CTS) sold in the United States contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). They pollute our lakes and are harmful to aquatic life. Exposure to PAHs is also dangerous to humans. Most people are exposed to PAHs through settled house dust (SHD). SHD occurs when people walk on driveways and parking lots previously sealed with (CTS) and then carry the residue into their homes, apartments, churches, schools and buildings. Exposure is especially critical to children who spend significant amounts of time on asphalt recreation areas that are previously sealed with a coal tar sealer (CTS) and then put their hands and objects into their mouths, after they have been subject to the PAH in coal tar sealed surfaces.
Located in Rochester, NY and providing complete pavement maintenance services to Monroe and Wayne counties, Eco-Seal is the first full time seal coating company to offer an asphalt emulsion-based sealer, which is an alternative to current COAL TAR products. Eco-Seal manager, Bill Johnson, is excited about bringing this product to the Rochester market. “When we found out the health issues caused by COAL TAR sealers, we made the decision to search for an environmentally friendly alternative,” said Mr. Johnson. “We were very happy to discover Pitch Black Asphalt Sealer which uses select mineral fillers and has been extensively tested over the past 10 years. Now that a number of cities and counties across the United States have banned COAL TAR sealers and imposed fines for their use, including wholesale giants like Lowes and Home Depot no longer selling (CTS) in their stores, it’s time to get the word out in New York State about this environmentally friendly sealer,” said Mr. Johnson.
