Gay Wedding Expo on Sunday, April 29, 2012 Anticipates Same-Sex Marriage in Maryland

With same sex weddings set to begin in January 2013 in Maryland, a new concept in wedding expos - “Marry Me in MD LGBT Wedding Expo” - is set for April in Baltimore.

“An LGBT Wedding Expo in Maryland could not come at a better time,” said Sheila Alexander-Reid, co-founder of Marry Me in DC, a cooperative of licensed Celebrants and Wedding Ministers specializing in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) marriages and unions. “Same sex couples in Maryland are ready to plan their nuptials. And while wedding expos have traditionally catered to heterosexual couples, any couple planning a wedding can benefit from attending an expo-style event. This new LGBT Wedding Expo will give same sex couples from Baltimore and across Maryland their chance to engage with an array of gay-friendly wedding service providers all in one place.”

The “Marry Me in MD LGBT Wedding Expo” aims to connect LGBT couples with gay-friendly wedding services and providers including photographers and photography studios, bakeries, reception venues, florists, caterers and many other wedding-day services. The “Marry Me in MD Wedding Expo” will also feature legal and financial planning professionals.

“This Expo will enable LGBT attendees to create and plan the wedding – and hopefully the marriage – of their dreams,” said Deborah Cummings-Thomas, co-founder of Marry Me in DC. “In addition to the many services couples can evaluate at the Expo, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops and chances to win raffles and drawings for numerous wedding services and other prizes.
To further celebrate the new law allowing same sex couples to marry in Maryland, Governor Martin O’Malley and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake have been invited to the “Marry Me in MD Wedding Expo” to accept an award for their work on the passage of the same sex marriage legislation - the Marriage Equality Bill. The bill was signed into law by Governor O’Malley earlier this month.
