Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to an increased risk of blood clots and other serious side effects

Parties to the current settlement reported Bayer, the manufacturer of Yaz / Yasmin, may pay $110 million to resolve numerous claims. This is the first settlement of cases over the product since the parties went to mediation in an attempt to resolve claims related to blood clots, heart attacks, strokes and other serious side effects as a result of women's use of the Yaz / Yasmin birth-control pills. (US Dist. Crt. S.D. Ill. MDL 2100)

The settlements were announced just days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a label change for the drospirenone-containing birth control pills (Yaz and Yasmin). Specifically, Bayer and other contraceptive makers were required to strengthen the blood-clot warnings on their products.
