Telsey and Company (Evita, Spider-Man, Sister Act, Rock of Ages, Wicked, Sex and the City one and two) nailed down the perfect actor to play the part that made the career of Marlon Brando in the new Broadway production of A Street Car Name Desire. Blair Underwood made his Broadway debut as Stanley, next to co-stars Nicole Ari Parker (Blanche DuBois) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Stella), and three time Tony Award© winning director Emily Mann.
A Street Car Name Desire, was written by classic 1950s playwright and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Tennessee Williams. His works are primarily fictional stories about life in the South. Other plays include: The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Night of the Iguana and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
With recent release of his new faith based film ‘Women Thou Are Loose: On The 7th Day” with Bishop JD Takes, last weekend, Underwood has ventured into yet again another great role with "Street Car." Underwood’s Broadway debut is well anticipated. Even young entertainment critic and entrepreneur Morgan Brown said, "the casting of Underwood as Stanley, is such a spin on the original [Marlon Brando], and a brilliant choice. Underwood’s presence will sure show new audiences the brilliance of Williams work. There has been so much buzz in the City [New York] for his Broadway debut, I can’t wait for the show to open!" Underwood’s passion for the arts is truly impressive, as he serves as an artist in residence at Harvard University, and was presented with an honorary degree from Emerson College in Boston MA.
Underwood is a large supporter of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The Blair Underwood Clinic, which opened almost three years ago, is a full-service and state-of-the art HIV-AIDS treatment clinic in Washington, DC. Underwood along with NBA legend Magic Johnson, is one of the first individual celebrity endorsers of the ‘Keep the Promise’ Declaration March and Rally, ‘March on Washington’ taking place this July, and expecting 300,000 people to attend. "The impact that Blair Underwood's name has on brands has proven that ad impressions convert to sales," said Richard Victor Mahee of Mahvrick Networks.
Underwood has truly developed a distinct brand on to himself. Underwood’s clothing line ‘BU Collection’ is exclusively sold at KG Stores (http://www.kgstores.com). Rico Cabrera hired celebrity stylist Angie Escamilla who has chosen to use the BU line to dress Spanglish Global Artists, Maffio (RIAA multi-platinum producer), Danny D Extreme, DJ Kane (Kumbia Kings), Davon for the upcoming Latin Billboard Awards. Over the past two years Rico Cabrera has built a music empire around Latin stars and plans to do more integrated marketing with Blair Underwood brands.
Underwood is known widely for his roles in L.A. Law, Deep Impact and Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion. Underwood has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, and was awarded a Grammy© Award for Best Spoken Word for former Vice President Al Gore's album An Inconvenient Truth. Underwood has been in numerous Off Broadway Theatre productions: The one-man show IM4: From the Mountaintop to Hip Hop, Purlie, NYSF's Measure for Measure, The Game of Love and Chance, Love Letters.
