Award-winning logistics expert Harry Meisell heads North Carolina service

There’s a new player in the electronic tracking industry, RFID Logistics Group. The North Carolina-based agency brings to the increasingly sophisticated industry the professional experience of nationally honored logistics engineer Harry Meisell.

RFID Logistics Group is a service of Lawrence Behr Associates, a part of LBA Group Inc., which has 45 years of international experience in the wireless telecommunications industry. The new consultancy can create or troubleshoot radio frequency identification systems that track items on the move, whether in production or in distribution.

As principal in RFID Logistics Group, Meisell calls upon 20 years of logistics engineering as a U.S. Army transportation officer. He followed that as a principal information engineer with Unisys Corporation, becoming project manager for automatic identification technology including the Army In-Transit Visibility (ITV) tracking system.

Meisell then worked with an Army agency for two years to integrate and expand ITV in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom NATO operations. He finally became senior project manager at Savi Technology, Inc., in California, where he managed domestic and international logistical systems.

Meisell lives now in the coastal North Carolina community of Washington.

RFID technology utilizes electronic scanners and readers to monitor movement of items marked with passive, active, or satellite tags. The systems are employed in warehouses, freight yards, hospital inventory departments, and numerous other business and government applications. RFID Logistics Group engineering services range broadly, from evaluating sites for radio frequency ID installations to problem-solving or upgrading existing systems.

“The efficiencies of an RFID system save money and shave time from a process. In a global economy—or a local economy moving at global speed—radio frequency identification is one way to keep a handle on things,” Meisell says of the technology.

Meisell’s logistics expertise was recognized in 2004 when he took home the Society of Logistics Engineers annual award. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University and master degree in systems management from Florida Institute of Technology.

In 1993, his U.S. Army logistical experience earned him a special job: He was picked as chief of the inaugural parade for President Bill Clinton. He then was named deputy post commander for logistics of the Army’s Washington military district.
