Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 23, 2012
The American College of Prosthodontists is pleased to announce National Prosthodontics Awareness Week™ (NPAW™) on April 22-28, 2012. This week-long celebration will inform the public about proper oral health including oral cancer detection; will provide consumers with details on how to best care for missing teeth; and will educate the public about the benefits of seeing a prosthodontist.
The ACP urges consumers to learn when and why they may need to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three additional years of training beyond dental school, because one of the primary goals of the campaign is raise public awareness about the critical importance of a healthy mouth.
“As a prosthodontist, I know that tooth loss happens from dental decay, gum disease or oral cancer, or simply occurs from wear in the mouth,” said Avinash S. Bidra, B.D.S., M.S., F.A.C.P., 2012 NPAW™ co-chair. “As a prosthodontist, I help make people whole again by bringing back your smile.”
Prosthodontists nationwide will be hosting free events including oral health screenings, lectures, community service outreach, among other activities geared towards the public and patients.
“As a prosthodontist, I often work with a team of dental professionals to create a comprehensive treatment plan for patients,” said Lawrence E. Brecht, D.D.S., 2012 NPAW™ co-chair. “Patients who are particularly concerned about the quality of their dental care should consider seeing a prosthodontist.”
With some 178 million people in the U.S. missing at least one tooth, increased awareness about proper oral health is critical. From proper denture care techniques to the importance of an annual oral cancer screening, NPAW™ will focus on facts and tips for consumers’ best oral health care.
Prosthodontists are proficient in comprehensive oral health diagnosis, treatment planning and restoration. Someone may be missing one or more teeth or may be interested in dental implants while someone else may wear dentures or may want to improve the appearance of his or her smile. Simply put, a prosthodontist has the skills and training to restore optimal appearance and function to your smile.
