OutSystems, the provider of the Agile Platform application development tool, announced today the launch of a worldwide initiative to assist charity organizations in the delivery of custom web applications. As part of this initiative, OutSystems will provide special licensing conditions to charities enabling them to use the Agile Platform to develop, deploy, manage and change their custom web and mobile applications.
As part of the charities licensing agreement, OutSystems grants organizations a royalty free, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the Agile Platform for internal purposes. To apply for this special licensing, organizations must be charitable, non-profit organizations created for public benefit which carry out activities like relief of poverty, advancement of education, advancement of religion, and other activities that are beneficial to their communities, without any monetary gain.
One Church, a UK-based charity organization, has been the first to take advantage of this special licensing and will use the Agile Platform to rapidly create, deploy and maintain a wide variety of internal applications. Relying almost entirely on volunteer IT support, the Agile Platform’s rapid application development allows One Church to build suites of organization-specific applications and evolve these apps without having to rely on packaged software that does not meet all of their needs.
“Limited IT resources are a harsh reality of any small organization, but charities like One Church are especially hard-pressed due to a lack of full-time IT professionals,” said Mike Jones, VP of Global Marketing with OutSystems. “The Agile Platform offers an easy-to-learn but powerful environment for rapid application development to build applications that not only meet current needs but can easily change to meet future requirements as well.”
One Church’s first application is a web-based event planning system, a key app given that the majority of the organization’s event planners are based off-site. The system will replace Word documents and manual emails, allowing for a more streamlined and collaborative approach when it comes to changing event requirements.
The next project for One Church will be the creation of a custom customer relationship management (CRM) application, which will act as a database store and a hub for complementary applications. One Church envisions that this application will revolutionize the way in which they manage their membership and visitors, becoming the central point for all internal administration processes.
“Since discovering OutSystems’ Agile Platform, we’ve been extremely pleased with the ability it offers to quickly develop applications,” said Iain Fogg, Operations Manager at One Church. “It’s given us hope that we can now build custom applications to meet our unique needs, in a far shorter timescale than we ever anticipated.”
