Naperville North High School driver’s education students got to experience the ins and outs of an auto dealership and learned some great lessons for new drivers. One of the leading Chicago area Toyota dealerships, Toyota of Naperville, hosted students last week and treated them to a variety of sessions ranging from financing a vehicle to regular maintenance. The experience was very valuable and was enjoyed by both the students and the dealership employees.
Pat O’Brien, the General Manager of Toyota of Naperville greeted the students and gave an introduction to the dealership. They were then broken up into five different groups to learn about different topics. Omer and Shannon G. spoke to the students about Toyota products, current and future ones and about business ethics. They also talked about the features and benefits of Toyota vehicles. The students also learned about the concept of financing a car and how to get a vehicle that they can afford.
Many new drivers need to learn about regular vehicle maintenance and emergency problem fixes and the students were taught this as well. Pete Murrin talked about regular vehicle maintenance and how it is important so that the vehicles last as long as possible. Chris Roach discussed how to change a flat tire and to check the oil. These simple but necessary lessons will help these students if they encounter these issues.
Finally, Bob Snell the Director of Fixed Operations, gave the students a tour of the building at Toyota of Naperville. The students impressed all of the employees with their knowledge and maturity of vehicles. When Omer asked the students about what they thought was important in a vehicle, they responded with “reliability, safety, and looks are a bonus.” The employees were pleasantly surprised with the responses and felt that these students were ready for the road.
On top of the lessons, the students won prizes for participation including two iPods, pens and everyone received a goodie bag from Toyota Financial Services. A “Go Huskies” banner was included in the bag so that the Naperville North students have something to wave at sporting events. All of the students were 15-16 year old drivers education class students and were led by their instructor, Mike Cluver.
