Criminal defense lawyer Benjamin (Ben) Hiltzheimer announced that his law practice, The Hiltzheimer Firm, PLLC, which originated in Washington, DC, has relocated to downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. The core of the firm’s work will be representing individuals charged with DUI / DWI, along with drug possession and distribution, theft and robbery, assault, and the full spectrum of misdemeanor and felony offenses in North Carolina.

Mr. Hiltzheimer looks forward to building on the significant experience he accrued in the nation's capital, where he was employed from 2006 to 2011 by the nation's pre-eminent public defender agency, the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, described by Attorney General Eric Holder as “the best public defender office in the country.” In 2011, Mr. Hiltzheimer opened The Hiltzheimer Firm, PLLC in the District of Columbia, and in 2012 relocated the criminal defense law firm to downtown Raleigh.

Mr. Hiltzheimer brings with him a résumé he believes will serve the citizens of North Carolina well. Upon graduation from the George Washington University Law School in 2006, where he received the Murray Snyder Scholarship for Public Interest Work, Mr. Hiltzheimer accepted a two-year attorney fellowship position at the Public Defender Service in DC. His work there focused on a combination of litigating complex forensics issues in serious felony cases in the District, and working in partnership with the Innocence Project to develop nationwide litigation strategies to combat leading causes of wrongful conviction in trial courts across the country.

Following his two-year fellowship, Mr. Hiltzheimer joined the trial division at the Public Defender Service in DC in 2008, where he was trained by leading defense attorneys to apply his expertise through fierce courtroom advocacy on behalf of indigent individuals charged with felonies in the District of Columbia. In his tenure as a trial attorney at the Public Defender Service, and following his founding of The Hiltzheimer Firm, Mr. Hiltzheimer accumulated a significant record of victories before judges and juries. Mr. Hiltzheimer now brings his significant trial experience in the nation’s capital to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he and his family relocated in 2012.
