VMS for Cloud allows for instantaneous and automatic scaling of virtualized infrastructure while requiring significantly reduced server memory.

Gridcentric, the virtualization optimization company, today announced the release of its Virtual Memory Streaming (VMS) technology for OpenStack powered clouds. VMS allows operators of both public and private clouds to scale their virtual infrastructures automatically and instantaneously while substantially reducing memory requirements.

As part of Gridcentric's inclusive cloud efforts, the company has developed extensions to the OpenStack project that enable VMS to run on OpenStack Virtual Machine (VM) instances for both KVM and Xen Hypervisors. Today, the Gridcentric OpenStack extensions have been made available under the Apache license, and Gridcentric will continue to drive the project forward through ongoing engineering, maintenance, and community support, as further versions of OpenStack are released.
Included in today's release is Pancake, Gridcentric's reactive and scalable service manager. Pancake leverages the full capabilities of VMS-enabled clouds in order to provide automatic and instantaneous service scaling and load balancing. Pancake simplifies development of elastic platforms and applications, while improving operational efficiency.

OpenStack is the world's leading Open Source cloud framework. It brings together over 150 companies and 2500+ contributors to form a vibrant and growing ecosystem of cloud-focused technologies and is being deployed by some of the most recognizable names in IT including Rackspace, Dell, AT&T and HP.

Founded in 2009, Gridcentric has developed game changing virtualization technology for the Cloud and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) markets. Gridcentric is a privately held company with offices in Toronto, Canada and Santa Clara, California. It has received investments from Rogers Venture Partners (the venture capital arm of Rogers Communications Inc.), Citrix Systems Inc. (the cloud, virtualization, and networking technology leader), the Investment Accelerator Fund (IAF), and the Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE).
