Funds Raised Will Benefit Programs that Support Palliative Care in Africa

On Saturday, May 19th, FHSSA (which began as the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa) will hold its second annual “Lion Chef” Invitational, a fundraising event based on the television culinary cult sensation featuring the legendary kitchen stadium and secret ingredient.

Professional and amateur chefs alike will compete using the “not-so-secret” ingredient: lemons, in five categories: cocktails, appetizers/soups, main course, dessert, and African dish. “With such a versatile ingredient, we’re really looking forward to the interesting dishes the chefs will create,” said John Mastrojohn, III, executive director of FHSSA.

Guests will mingle and taste their way through all of the dishes, casting ballots for their “People’s Choice” favorites. Local “celebrity” judges will award the chef with the best dish the Lion Chef Award. The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on May 19th at the Madison Building Atrium of the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, VA. Funds raised by the event will be used to support the programs in FHSSA, which focuses on expanding access to palliative care services in Africa.
