YouWeb, the groundbreaking tech incubator that created OpenFeint, CrowdStar, iSwifter and spaceport.io, is today announcing a demo day in tandem with the Los Angeles-based incubator, StartEngine. The StartEngine companies will join the latest batch of YouWeb incubations presenting to an invite-only group of 100 Silicon Valley investors, influencers, and press. The YouWeb-hosted demo day event – which is already sold out – seeks to bring together the best entrepreneurs and ideas from across California.
YouWeb and StartEngine’s demo day, organized by two of the country’s fastest-growing incubators, bridges the gap between Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, two of the nation’s most innovative regions. StartEngine, created by former Activision co-founder and CEO Howard Marks, will be bussing up a dozen companies on Tuesday May 1st to the YouWeb headquarters in Menlo Park, California. In total, 20 companies will be presenting, many of which are in stealth mode and will be unveiled for the first time at the event. The presenting companies will come from a cross section of industries, with focus spanning mobile, social, gaming, education, entertainment, and e-commerce.
“This is the first-ever Demo Day for YouWeb companies, so I'm delighted to be able to co-host this with Howard Marks, former CEO of Activision,” said YouWeb Chairman Peter Relan. “We think that StartEngine taps into a different eco-system that complements ours here in Silicon Valley. In fact, our event is a vanguard of the inevitable convergence of technology, education, entertainment and gaming.”
StartEngine was created by Howard Marks, co-founder and former-CEO of Activision, and Paul Kessler, one of the most prolific investors in Los Angeles. Start Engine provides local startups with the essential resources and mentorship they need to become successful businesses. This batch of startups will be traveling up to Menlo Park, California to present their companies before Silicon Valley investors.
YouWeb is an incubator created by Peter Relan, a 20-year serial entrepreneur in the Silicon Valley. Founded in 2007, YouWeb focuses on gaming, education and entertainment-related ventures. Companies presenting at the demo day event will include a new venture by former OpenFeint Founder and CEO, Jason Citron, who’s previous YouWeb-incubated company was sold in May 2011 to Japanese gaming company, GREE, for $104MM.
YouWeb was created by Peter Relan, a successful serial entrepreneur, Silicon Valley executive, angel investor, and technology veteran for over 20 years. YouWeb invests in helping brilliant developers/engineers who have never founded a start-up. Generally speaking YouWeb's focus is consumer Internet and mobile with an emphasis on social entertainment.
StartEngine is a rapid accelerator focused on helping Los Angeles-based technology startups build a solid foundation for success in 90 days. StartEngine offers a team of mentors who have proven themselves as successful entrepreneurs – not professional investors – ensuring that its startups are guided by the right people for the right reasons. Early-stage companies in the web, mobile and ecommerce space are encouraged to apply for the program, which completes four cycles per year, culminating in Demo Days that are attended by the region’s top angel investors and VCs.
