EyeEm has today released the long awaited WinPhone iteration of its smartphone photography sharing and discovery app, developed in partnership with both Microsoft and Nokia and to be listed amongst their featured apps. This latest release coincides with the recent complete overhaul of the sister web platform, meaning EyeEm is now available as a truly cross-platform experience on iOS, Android, WinPhone and the web.
Functionally identical to its sister iOS and Android iterations - albeit with a streamlined, bespoke navigation - EyeEm for WinPhone offers all of the photo sharing and discovery features and functionality that have led to top commentators such as Leo Laporte to name EyeEm as a serious contender in the emerging mobile photo space.
EyeEm’s newly redesigned web platform has streamlined all aspects of the EyeEm web experience, complementing the mobile apps in terms of layout by displaying subscribed albums, friends and the ‘popular’ channel on a head mounted task bar.
“Since starting EyeEm, our vision has been to make photography accessible to anyone, anywhere, no matter what device they are using - to release great photos from peoples’ smartphones and onto a place where they can be appreciated by anyone,” commented Florian Meißner, EyeEm co-founder and CEO. “With today’s release of EyeEm for WinPhone, we can now offer a whole new family of users that same EyeEm philosophy and experience that has thus far built such a dedicated community of photo lovers on iOS and Android.”
Since launching originally on iOS and Android in August 2011, free to download EyeEm has established itself as an innovative method for discovering smartphone photography as well as for personal photo sharing on social networks and blogging platforms. The 14 built-in filters offer instant picture editing in real time to photos that can be automatically tagged based on user location and activity. After updating to version 2.0 at the end of 2011 - introducing new user profiles and streamlined discovery options - the app has earned considerable praise from tech press and innovator photography blogs alike.
“EyeEm offers a great mix of sharing and discovery around photo content that we felt would sit perfectly on the WinPhone platform,” commented Jens Garberding, Platform Marketing Lead - Windows Phone, Microsoft Germany. “Tagging by location and activity brings a novel twist to the photosharing space, and has built an engaging community that we’re sure our users will want to be a part of.”
