Liposuction Innovations Will Cause Popularity to Rebound, Surgeon Predicts

While the number of liposuction procedures performed in the U.S. has dropped considerable during the past decade, Dr. Evan Sorokin, a leader in advanced liposuction in South Jersey, says new techniques are turning those statistics around.

Dr. Evan Sorokin, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery, says he is seeing a turnaround in the demand for liposuction in New Jersey as advancements in technology lead to a new generation of liposuction methods.

Even though there has been a nationwide drop in the use of liposuction in recent years, the number of liposuction procedures performed in the United States rose slightly in 2011. Liposuction was the third most common cosmetic procedure in the United States last year – behind breast augmentation and nose reshaping. Recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show the popularity of liposuction had decreased 42% since 2000, but it increased by 1% between 2010 and 2011.

“This is the beginning of a trend,” Dr. Sorokin says. “As new methods such as Smartlipo™ and VASER® Lipo become more available, we will begin to see an even greater increase in the use of this procedure.”

Dr. Sorokin was the first plastic surgeon to offer the Smartlipo method of liposuction in South New Jersey. Smartlipo uses laser energy to assist in removing fat, as well as tightening skin in the targeted area and encouraging collagen production. VASER Lipo uses ultrasonic waves to treat troublesome fat deposits.

“I understand how frustrating it can be to have areas of stubborn fat that detract from an otherwise toned body,” Dr. Sorokin says.

This is why he chose to specialize in ultrasonic and power-assisted liposuction and was honored to have Cynosure, the maker of Smartlipo, select Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery as an official training center for other physicians.

“Smartlipo can even be used on fat deposits that are too small for traditional liposuction methods,” he says, “and the added benefits of skin tightening and collagen stimulation, all in one treatment, makes it an ideal solution for many liposuction candidates.”

Dr. Sorokin says his practice is also seeing a high demand for other cosmetic surgery procedures that are popular nationwide, including rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. New Jersey women are coming to Dr. Sorokin in increasing numbers for all types of breast surgery.

“Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures at Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery,” Dr. Sorokin says. “Whether you want a sexier look, increased self-confidence, replacement of breast volume lost during pregnancy or reconstruction following a mastectomy or an injury, I can design an individualized breast procedure that is right for you.”
