KWCUSA will permit state competitions to be held as late as September, to be followed by Regional competitions in October. The national championship will be the last week in October or the first week in November. Local competitions are underway and new venues are encouraged to get started immediately. Once a local venue purchases license, they can hold competitions until the end of August.

This timing will allow KWCUSA to book accommodations outside of the busy summer season and avoid a lag time prior to the world competition. The dates will also draw more attention to the competition itself.

Current plans call for four regional competitions, North, South, East, and West. North regional is tentatively planned in Ohio, South in Texas, East in North Carolina, and West in California. Wendell Payne, President of KWCUSA says, “We have had initial contacts with the people involved at each of the possible regional venues and look forward to finalizing those venues in the next week or two. We will be contacting them again this week and plan to make announcement the following week. We may have one of the regional venues also be the site of the nationals. We are looking to have exciting venues that reflect the nature of karaoke and the KWCUSA.”

KWCUSA was the basis for ABC’s Karaoke Battle USA last season and although there are no current plans for a second season on ABC, KWCUSA is working with several key people and production companies to explore other opportunities. KWCUSA is also exploring internet streaming opportunities for state, regional, and national competitions.

Payne says, “We were very disappointed in the ratings the show received and believe that the weakness was primarily due to the scheduling of the show on Friday night when millions of karaoke singers are out singing and not in front of the television. The experience with ABC was a huge learning experience and we truly appreciate the quality of the show that was produced and the effort Muriel Pearson and the other wonderful people at ABC put into the show. Most of all, they were true to karaoke and true to the event. While many similar shows create fictitious over the top drama between contestants and use superstars to draw attention to the show, ABC chose to be true to the singers and karaoke and we cannot thank them enough. ABC worked tirelessly to produce an amazing show and it truly was”

KWCUSA will also announce dates for the online entry portion of the completion once the regional venues are set.
