Alzheimer’s affects individuals of all ages.

Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center will hold the 9th Annual Friendship Circle Luncheon on Wednesday, May 9 at The Garden City Hotel (45 7th Street, Garden City) to raise funds for vital Alzheimer’s programs. The luncheon will honor Shawn & Betsy Elliot for their leadership in the community, as well as Tikkun Olam Award recipient Pat Moffett and Communications Service Award recipient Maurice DuBois of WCBS-TV. Americana Manhasset will also present a fashion show featuring Oscar de la Renta and Salvatore Ferragamo.
Sid Jacobson JCC has long been a national leader in services for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other functional impairments. The first of its kind in the country, the JCC’s Let’s Do Lunch program series offers support for adults in their 30s, 40s and 50s diagnosed with Young Onset dementia, their young spouses and their children. On the other end of the spectrum, the Friendship Circle and GEMS programs provide daily support for frail elderly with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke or other chronic conditions. Caregivers are also given respite and counseling services.
“These services really need more attention, and are often over looked by the philanthropic community,” honoree Shawn Elliot said. “Alzheimer’s affects individuals of all ages. Individuals are being diagnosed in their 30's, 40's and 50’s, devastating young families and derailing futures.”
