Neil Holtzhausen, in South Carolina, was recently named Sprout Healthy Vending’s newest operator. Sprout Healthy Vending has quickly become a leader in the healthy vending machine world, taking offices, gyms, YMCA’s, and schools by storm in a healthy direction. Holtzhausen will be placing his machines in and around the Charleston, S.C. area.
During a five-year sailing trip with his family, Holtzhausen was restricted on food options, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When the family returned home they knew they didn’t want to stop practicing their healthy habits they had picked up at sea. In our fast-paced world it is difficult to maintain healthy habits and it has become the norm to grab a high-calorie big mac while you are on the go but now with Sprout Healthy Vending machines you have the convenience and nutritious options wrapped into one.
“Last year my wife and I, with our two boys now aged nine and seven, completed a five-year sailing circumnavigation aboard our 43 foot sailboat. On this trip our diet consisted mostly of fresh food obtained solely from fishing or local farmers markets. We also saw the devastating consequences of communities that mostly had access to processed food compared to those communities where the local farmers market was an important part of their culture. It was great for our family to be away from the fast food culture and learn some new healthy behaviors.”
Born and raised in South Africa, Holtzhausen did his research and knew he wanted to be a part of something that would give back to the community, just like the various communities he saw on his trip. “I was excited and intrigued by the concept of healthy vending and Sprout offered the best support system for a newcomer to the business. Sprout also offered the best overall business model,” Holtzhausen explains.
“As I am researching and speaking with locations, I am realizing that the healthy organic vending machine is a very new concept to the locations near me,” Holtzhausen says. “Everyone so far has been excited about the idea and feels that it is a refreshing alternative to the traditional vending options out there.”
Holtzhausen continues, “I couldn’t be more proud to offer these wholesome options to my community especially since they don’t have anything like this available. I know people are going to be so happy that I am providing nutritious selections – ultimately helping them instill healthy eating habits for the rest of their lives.”
Holtzhausen feels that now is the time for healthy vending. “People have been exposed to healthy eating by local farmer’s markets, successful Whole Foods, Earth Fare, and Trader Joes stores. Snack vending has always been about junk food and now Sprout has a healthy alternative.”
