Human Capital Institute (HCI) unveiled the results of a proprietary study (“Creating a Better Plan: Connecting Business Strategy, Structure and Talent”) that examines the value of organizational and strategic workforce planning in the enterprise, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 12 p.m. EDT, during a live webcast with study co-sponsor HumanConcepts, a Saba Company.
Earlier this year, HCI distributed a 66-item survey to more than 10,000 HCI members worldwide. A key finding: Organizations with workforce plans, strategically aligned to business plans, classified themselves as “prepared for the recession” as a direct result of planning initiatives.
HCI and HumanConcepts identified two classes of organizational planners—Strategic Planners (SPs), who recognize the value of workforce planning and proper talent fit within their ranks; and Reluctant Planners (RPs), who do not clearly define roles, are unable to staff their roles efficiently, and are generally unhappy with their level of workflow, hierarchy and company agility. The research also explored the connection between talent planning, covered by workforce planning, and business structure, a practice called organizational planning.
“Strategic workforce planning is a key element to human capital management,” said HCI CEO Carl Rhodes. “While the study found that less than half of organizations have a workforce plan that is aligned to the business, it also revealed that those that do realize increased profitability and employee engagement, among many other top-line benefits.”
