Policies from $29* + Stamp Duty

Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) has this week launched a brand new website aimed at making online travel insurance even easier and faster.
The SCTI website has been revamped to make it easier and quicker to purchase travel insurance, find tailored information, get answers to questions and purchase a policy. 100% of SCTI policy sales are transacted through its website.
On the new SCTI website, consumers also have the option to log in using their policy details and resend their policy documents to themselves. Customers also have the ability to cancel their policy online.
The ‘Ask A Question’ facility allows consumers to search and browse through various questions and answers relating to travel insurance. If they’re unable to find an answer to their query, they can email specific questions directly to SCTI. SCTI has a target response time of two hours to questions emailed during business hours.
The website’s homepage also features up-to-date information on the latest advice for events that may disrupt travel, such as major weather events, strikes, company closures or terror alerts, and a library of travel articles and tips to assist those looking for extra help preparing for their travel.
After launching in Australia three years ago, SCTI has experienced rapid year-on-year growth. In the 2011 financial year, the number of people traveling with Southern Cross Travel Insurance policies grew by 90%, while visitors to the SCTI website have doubled on the previous year.
SCTI’s CEO Mr Craig Morrison said SCTI’s rapid growth was all part of the increasing confidence Australian consumers had in the security, quality and value of goods and services purchased over the internet.
“Purchasing travel insurance directly from the insurer is becoming increasingly popular with net-savvy travelers seeking the best possible value. These consumers are already online booking flights, hotels, transport and researching their destinations, so it’s a natural evolution. Travel insurance is a purchase perfectly suited to the internet – it’s inexpensive, straightforward and instant,” said Mr Morrison.
As with the sales, 100% of SCTI claims are lodged through the website, rather than customers submitting paper claims. “Dealing direct and online helps to keep overheads down and therefore pass on the savings to our customers” said Morrison.
A recent survey of SCTI customers found that price was by far the most important factor for consumers in their decision to purchase travel insurance online, with point-of-sale service the least important.
“Consumers know there is value to be found in cutting out the middle man. Up until recently, the majority of Australian consumers were still buying travel insurance through their travel agent – and paying substantial add-on commission costs. By transacting and bringing services online, SCTI can create cost efficiencies and pass these savings directly to the consumer.”
Said Morrison, “The vast majority of consumers don’t need personalised service when they are buying their travel insurance policy – it’s at the claiming end that personal service is crucial, and that’s where SCTI focuses its energies.”
