Healthcare Payers to Discuss the Challenges of Achieving Financial Neutrality During ICD-10 Transition

The ICD-10 mandate is one of the most extensive conversion projects healthcare organizations face, affecting nearly every functional area within their business. Failure to effectively tackle the business impacts of ICD-10 may result in health plans spending more and increasing the risk of not achieving revenue neutrality across the transition.

ICD-10 will be a key topic at next week’s Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) National Conference in Tampa, Fla., where industry experts and healthcare payer representatives will gather to discuss ways to improve the administrative efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness of healthcare through electronic record-keeping, and information exchange.

Edifecs, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare software solutions, will attend the conference, and the company’s ICD-10 expert, Kristine Weinberger, will present an educational session and moderate a panel discussing remediation of payer policies to support ICD-10. In the wake of the Department of Health and Human Services’ proposed rule to delay the ICD-10 compliance deadline by one year, healthcare organizations are using the additional time to better assess the business impact of ICD-10 and mitigate the various risks involved.

Additionally, Edifecs will host a vendor information session to demonstrate how the Edifecs Operating Rules solution accelerates the implementation of Operating Rules, another key mandate faced by the healthcare industry. Beyond complying with the mandate, healthcare payers can realize significant business benefits including reduced operational cost, enhanced call center productivity and increased member and provider satisfaction.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 3:25 p.m. EDT

WHAT: This session will include an overview presentation of best practices for consideration in the remediation of payer policies to support ICD-10. Additionally, a panel consisting of representatives from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and Humana will present approaches, early experiences and lessons learned in their policy remediation efforts. The session and panel will also discuss:

  • Challenges and realities of remediating current policies to survive and thrive in an ICD-10 environment with the focus on revenue neutrality.
  • The ability to leverage the advantages of ICD-10 in policies and rules moving forward to achieve more effective and appropriate payment rules.
