Indulge in All Things “Golden” With Hotel Palomar San Francisco in Honor of the Golden Gate Bridge's 75th Anniversary

"The Golden Gate Bridge is not only an icon for San Francisco but people from around the world who have a storied connection to the bridge." Christopher Smith- General Manager

Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar San Francisco has unveiled its new “Golden Gate Suite,” appropriately timed to honor the 75th anniversary of one of the most iconic and recognizable landmarks in California – The Golden Gate Bridge. The festive “Golden Gate Suite” will be available for hotel guests, now through the end of the year, to indulge their senses with creations from local artists that honor the Golden Gate Bridge, including furniture made out of reclaimed steel from the Golden Gate Bridge, a special cocktail inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge and more.

“The Golden Gate Bridge is not only an icon for San Francisco but people from around the world who have a storied connection to the bridge,” said Christopher Smith, general manager for . “We wanted to partner with local artists in San Francisco to create a unique experience for our guests to celebrate the bridge’s anniversary, history and beauty. The hotel and our partners have captured the essence of the bridge through this new suite.”

From the moment guests walk off the elevator onto the fifth floor of the San Francisco hotel and peek down the hallway, they will catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge tollbooth blown up on the doors and walls of suite 512. The eye-catching photo is just the beginning of the experience guests will discover during their stay in the Golden Gate Suite. Upon entering the suite, guests will see the glowing and brilliant Golden Gate Bridge across the bay windows of the suite -- a printed opaque decal that expands across the five bay windows in the room. The printed decal can also been seen from outside on Market Street or Fourth Street, making it unique among San Francisco Boutique Hotel Rooms.

The headboard in the “Golden Gate Suite” was painted with a street art style and artistically captures the grandeur of the bridge. Other special touches in the room include a lampshade with historic photos from 1937, when the bridge was being built. A whimsical wire art sculpture of the Golden Gate Bridge hangs on the bathroom wall and special pillows were created with photos of the bridge in the late 1930’s.

The nightstands and coffee table were created by local San Francisco artist and Bay Area native, Richard Bulan, and are all made out of Golden Gate Bridge steel. Since 1994, Richard has been building furniture out of metal taken off the Golden Gate Bridge.

All graphics and art in the suite, besides the nightstands and coffee table, were created by Creativity Splash in Sausalito, California—Hotel Palomar San Francisco wanted to partner with local artists in the Bay Area to create their vision for the Golden Gate suite.

Guests staying in the “Golden Gate Suite” are treated to a complimentary Golden Gate cocktail from Fifth Floor Restaurant, the restaurant at Hotel Palomar San Francisco. The cocktail, called Vermillion M.E.S., gets its name from the Orange Vermillion color painted over the steel, chosen by architect Irving Morrow. Charles Ellis and Joseph Strauss were also two of the contributing architects. All three of their last names are used in the cocktail’s name—M.E.S. Additionally, guests will receive a complimentary chocolate turndown amenity, a Golden Gate Bridge: History and Design of an Icon book by Ira Bruce Nadel and Donald MacDonald, and Hotel Palomar luggage tags celebrating the 75th anniversary. The suite is available from now until December 31, 2012 starting at $439 per night. Rate code is GG75.
