The beauty of the beach and the sea is often a great place of inspiration. For author Ellen F. Kay, it is what inspired her to pen her new book, “The Search for the Jade Lizard” (published by iUniverse). “While vacationing in Hawaii I was sitting in a hotel lounge chair, looking at the sea,” she explains. “The garden was filled with tropical plants: hibiscus flowers, white ginger, palm and frangipani trees. The ambiance inspired me to start writing an adventure novel for young people.” This in mind, Kay incorporates Hawaii’s history, as well as her own culture in her debut novel.

In “The Search for the Jade Lizard,” teen siblings Andrea and Brad Davis, who are also amateur sleuths, start to search for a lost Hawaiian treasure after first hearing about it from a psychic. Along the way, they experience a number of adventures, one being a meeting with a nasty villain and his sinister henchman, who capture and imprison the siblings, threatening to kill them unless they reveal what it is they are in search of.

An excerpt from “The Search for the Jade Lizard”:

“The door was pushed open forcefully. The blond man stood in the doorway his whole demeanor radiating menace…..and his right foot tapping impatiently…The tapping drew the attention of the young prisoners to his foot.”

“Their captor entered the room…and in his harsh voice demanded, ‘Well, have you decided to talk?’”

“’We already told you. We were just exploring.’ Brad stared back at him defiantly.”

“The Search for the Jade Lizard” is a fresh and exciting adventure sure to entertain, as well as teach the reader about Maui culture.
