The banking operations jobs market continues to prove challenging to candidates, Randstad Financial and Professional’s latest market research has shown.
The quarterly report, compiled from research gathered from the views of industry consultants and recruitment statistics, has found that the application process for banking operations jobs applicants this year is set to be no less demanding than in 2011. In an extremely competitive jobs market, employers are looking for proof of highly specific skill sets.
This is, in part, due to increase in demand for specific technical roles – notably structured derivatives and on-boarding.
Another reason for more being expected from potential candidates is the dramatic 80% decrease in available roles from this time last year. Q1 is traditionally a busy period, however, the banking operations jobs market continues to be affected by uncertainty in the Eurozone, in addition to the traditional compensation season and budget period fluctuations in the sector.
There does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel. Market intelligence suggests that things are set to improve moving into Q2, as the industry responds to regulatory changes within the market. One key area that has affected the operations space is the Dodd Frank regulation, and as a result, many firms will be looking to recruit candidates with experience in operational control and regulatory reporting.
Randstad has also seen a number of the larger firms recruiting at the more senior level, as well as some activity within the smaller houses, as well the hedge fund market.
