The “My First Skinz” Program is part of UV Skinz’ efforts to promote National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

We’re excited to once again be featuring our ‘My First Skinz’ program, which has had great success in previous years on educating families about the harmful effects of sun exposure in infants.

UV Skinz, a Northern-California based company, is donating free baby UV protection swim shirts to thousands of infants. For the fifth year in a row, UV Skinz has honored National Skin Cancer Awareness Month with its “My First Skinz” program by donating the baby sun protection clothing to selected maternity wards and pediatricians’ offices. Additionally, the company will include a free baby UV swim shirt for every UV Skinz order placed through the company’s website during the month of May.

“We’re excited to once again be featuring our ‘My First Skinz’ program, which has had great success in previous years on educating families about the harmful effects of sun exposure in infants. The free baby swim shirt giveaway gets families in the early habit of making sure their children have adequate sun protection – not just through sunscreen, which can be irritating to skin – but through our UV swim shirts and UPF 50+ clothing,” says company founder, Rhonda Sparks. “We’ve built a full community on our website to educate people about the damaging effects of the sun. Our informative Baby Sun Protection webpage, http://www.uvskinz.com/babysunprotection.aspx, describes how parents can protect their children’s fragile skin.”

UV Skinz will be donating the baby UV swim shirts to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in California, Peace Health Southwest Medical Center in Washington, Enloe Children’s Health Center in California, and Sonora Regional Medical Center, in Sonora, California, where UV Skinz is headquartered. Additionally, all May online orders of any UV Skinz sunwear protection product will include a free baby UV swim shirt, along with a flyer encouraging families to donate the swim shirt to a relevant organization, neighbor, or family with a small child who could benefit from sun protection clothing.

UV Skinz was founded by Rhonda Sparks in 2005, after she lost her 32-year-old husband to melanoma skin cancer. The company offers a full-selection of clothing products with a UPF rating of 50 +, which has been proven to block over 98% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. For young children and babies, in particular, the swimwear offers sun protection without the harmful sunscreen chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin.
