The Great Depression was one of the major events that marked the late 1920's and 1930's in the United States. It was a time of economic downturn, severe unemployment, poverty and strife. In that same grim period, two brothers embark on their own journey; a journey that would reshape their future and their very lives. "Sonny": The Tale of Two Brothers chronicles the travels of author Roland Roberts and his brother, Sonny, throughout a lifetime and the epiphanies they discovered along the way.

By equal turns riveting, sad and hopeful, Roberts shares what it was like to live during the Great Depression. He illuminates an era rife with difficulties yet opportune for growth while demonstrating valuable lessons of resilience and hope. The events and experiences are sketched out through the eyes and travels of the two brothers; whose personalities seem to be polar opposites. In Sonny, readers will meet a charismatic individual with a love for adventure, finding challenges in daily routine and one who enjoyed sharing it with everyone around him. Roberts, extremely bright, on the other hand was more adept in discovering how things worked. Some occurrences hold personal value while others are culturally and historically relevant, providing readers a vivid glimpse of the events that helped pave the way to the present status of the United States. The author provides insight to the origin of "Political Correctness" and the effects it has had on us.

Suffused with the zeitgeist of the times, "Sonny": The Tale of Two Brothers is a literary testament of human strength and fortitude amidst adversity.
