Author Gale Maag grew up in Paragould, Arkansas, spending much of his time playing football under the bright lights of Harmon Field. In Jack Dale: The Life and Times of an Unforgettable Coach, (ISBN: 978-0-9852020-0-2) Maag taps into the memories and experiences from the early days of his own youth while telling the story of his extraordinary coach, Jack Dale.
Maag’s daughter Jennifer Maag Adams explains, “Growing up in our house we all knew the stories of Jack Dale well. We would ask Daddy to tell and retell them. Jack Dale was my father's high school football coach. And Dad was arguably Coach Dale's favorite player. Jack is in the Arkansas Razorback Hall of Fame for his athletic feats, but it's his unbelievable life story that makes Coach Dale a character to remember. Jumping from an "Orphan Train" as a child, and then living out of a piano crate is quite a beginning to an amazing life story! Coach Dale was resourceful, opinionated, and stubborn. He was also incredibly sensitive and real. The latter being qualities he chose to reveal to only a handful of people; fortunately for us my father was one of those people.” For more information, access her blog here: http://nuttyirishmanknits.blogspot.com/2012/04/old-dog-new-tricks.html
Moreover, Dale Hanks, Author of Coaches notes, “Gale Maag’s memories of Jack Dale are a unique blend of excitement under Friday night lights mixed with remarkable drama played out behind the scenes of Paragould High School football in the 1950s. Gale takes the reader along with him into the locker room, out to the playing field, and on to shadowy areas beyond the stadium lights. Some of his first-hand accounts of playing under the watchful eye of Coach Jack Dale will make you laugh out loud. I guarantee it. But at the end of the day, Gale’s extraordinarily close bond with his old ball coach will touch your heart.”
As a biography, a tribute, and a collection of vivid memories, this book recounts the exploits of both coach and student as they negotiate life’s challenges. Jack Dale is available at Amazon (http://amzn.to/JF9jir ) and Barnes & Noble (http://bit.ly/Ixwwxz ).
Gale Maag still resides in his hometown of Paragould, Arkansas along with the love of his life, Peggy (Boyd) Maag; they have four children and six grandchildren. This is Maag’s debut book. His memoir of his early childhood days is currently in progress. He is and always will be proud to be one of “Jack’s Boys.”
