Tremco Incorporated is proud to have recently received an Award for Excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Performance from the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC) for our headquarters renovation; the project was unique among those honored because of its scope, integrating multiple elements of sustainability and environmental stewardship within the business planning cycle.

“We appreciate the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council’s recognition of our renovation, and thank them for presenting us with an Award of Excellence,” said company president Randy Korach. “Our hope is to inspire other companies to look beyond such traditional improvement projects as upgrading factory equipment and embrace the ‘whole building’ approach in which a building is considered a system, with multiple enhancements working together to achieve high performance.”

The goal of Tremco’s comprehensive, foundation-to-roof renovation of its circa 1970 headquarters building was making it a sustainable showcase--a high-performance, energy-efficient facility requiring less water, using renewable energy sources and substantially reducing operating costs. Results to date show major decreases in gas, electric and water consumption. Among the many sustainable solutions used in the renovation are a wind turbine, vegetated and photovoltaic roofs, a water capture and reuse system, and energy-efficient façade and windows. The project generated more than two million pounds of construction debris and recycled, donated or burned for energy all of it, sending nothing to landfills.

The facility received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in February, 2012.
