The number of fatalities that occurred in crashes during February was higher than during the same month of 2011, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The Oklahoma car accident attorneys at the law firm of Atkins & Markoff, a team of Oklahoma personal injury lawyers who represent clients who have been wrongfully injured in crashes, hereby alerts the public of a report issued by the Department of Public Safety that relates to the statistics regarding fatalities resulting from Oklahoma traffic accidents during the month of February. The number of fatalities was higher in February of 2012 as compared to the same month during the previous year.

The Department of Public Safety revealed that a total of 39 people were killed in Oklahoma car accidents during the month of February. This number is higher than the 19 fatalities that occurred during February of 2011. These numbers include people who were killed anywhere in the state during the month, and it represents more than double the number of fatalities when compared to the same month from the previous year.

In addition, these fatalities relating to Oklahoma traffic accidents include those people who were killed in motorcycle accidents and pedestrian accidents as well as automobile accidents. Two motorcyclists were killed and four pedestrians lost their lives in crashes during the month of February of 2012. One of the fatalities was related to alcohol.

29 of the people killed in Oklahoma car accidents were male and the other 10 were female. 16 of the fatalities occurred in accidents that took place on highways and 8 fatalities occurred on what the DPS described as city streets. A total of 132 people have been killed in Oklahoma car accidents so far during the calendar year of 2012.
