Nabin Sapkota, MD, the author of “Symptoms and Diagnosis” book project releases a new video in which he is yet again talking directly to his patients. The style of the video is similar to his earlier video about symptoms of pneumonia in which he explained the medical diagnosis in a simple language using a whiteboard with hand drawn anatomical diagram. The video about throwing up blood shows what happens inside our body that makes us throw up blood.
“As I was monitoring our website traffic, I was alarmed by the number of people that landed on the site with a search query related to throwing up blood. More than three thousands visitors looking for more information on the topic were referred to our site by search engines just in the last 30 days. I am very concerned by this number. Many patients who throw up blood develop complications because of delay in diagnosis and treatment. Some people do not realize the urgency of the situation when they start to throw up blood. I am worried thinking how many of the thousands of information seekers may actually be throwing up blood when they visit the ‘Symptoms and Diagnosis’ book project website,” says Nabin Sapkota, MD, a board certified internal medicine physician practicing in Nebraska.
Dr. Sapkota continues,“Many patients who throw up blood develop complications because of delay in diagnosis and treatment. I have created this video to give them a quick overview of why it is a medical emergency and what can happen when they throw up blood. Some people do not realize the urgency of the situation when they start to throw up blood. There is plenty of written information on the website with examples, illustrations and explanations but I think a short video may be more appealing to the visitors when they are looking for information about something as pressing as throwing up blood. In this video I have stressed how important it is to seek medical attention urgently when you throw up blood. I have also tried to explain that it is not possible to accurately predict the possible cause of bleeding just based on the symptoms. I am urging people to get to the emergency department as soon as they throw up blood to prevent complications”
“I hope this quick video will convince some patients to seek help when they are just trying to decide what to do after vomiting blood. I am glad that the number of people visiting the book project website has gone up tremendously in the last month but the number of queries related to potentially life threatening symptoms has made me concerned. I hope this video will help some of those people understand the seriousness of the medical symptom,” Dr. Sapkota concludes.
