Athena Software Continues Expansion in Australia

Waterloo Region tech company Athena Software continues to expand the market for its Penelope case management application in the relationship services sector in Australia and New Zealand.

Things are looking up Down Under for Athena Software.

The Waterloo, Ont.-based software company's Penelope case management application is now in use at six of Relationships Australia's eight regional organizations.

Relationships Australia is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides services in counselling, family dispute resolution and a range of family and community support and education programs. Founded in 1953 as the National Marriage Guidance Council of Australia, Relationships Australia served over 140,000 clients in 2009-10 and has over 2,000 staff working at more than 200 centres nationwide.

Athena director Greg Stanley-Horn recently returned from Australia where he led an on-site implementation at two of Athena's newest RA clients in Queensland and Tasmania.

"Relationships Australia Queensland has been working with Greg Stanley-Horn, director of deployment at Athena, to configure and customize Penelope to meet our client and case management needs," said Veronica Wingfield, director of quality assurance at Relationships Australia Queensland.

"We provide services from more than 30 centres across Queensland and employ over 350 staff. We work with clients face-to-face, by telephone, on-line, in one of our centres, or elsewhere. We offer over 30 services and education courses that fall within one of the following service categories; Counselling, Separation, Education, and Support. Having a client information system that allows staff in our client contact centre to schedule appointments at any venue and in any service is vital," she explains.

"Penelope’s strength lies in its capacity to address our funding body requirements and provide comprehensive in-house reporting to meet RAQ’s high standards and culture of continuous improvement. The web-based Penelope application has already been implemented with staff at four other RA organizations in South Australia (RASA), New South Wales, Northern Territory and Canberra & Region.

Athena Software has many other clients in Australia's social services sector. The company's Penelope application is currently in use at numerous national social service organizations, including five of Anglicare Australia's affiliates (Northern Inland, Northern Territory, Sydney, Tasmania and Western Australia), three Centacare sites (Adelaide, New England North West and Wilcannia-Forbes) and at numerous universities (Sydney, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Sydney, Adelaide, Australia National University, University of the Sunshine Coast).

The company also recently expanded into New Zealand, adding Wellington-based Relationships Aotearoa as a client earlier this year.

Athena Software first began working with Relationships Australia in 2010, when RASA inked a deal to begin using the Penelope case management software application. Since then, Athena's alliance with Relationships Australia has been a close-knit one, involving multiple on-site visits. In November 2011, Stanley-Horn made a joint presentation with RASA director of IT and marketing Sandra Vallance at the 2011 Family Relationship Services Australia (FRSA) conference in Queensland.
