There is a huge number of travel bloggers out there, who create tremendous content and are barely monetizing their sites. Some of the bloggers would rather be independent from individual companies, others don’t want to look like an ad farm, and yet others simply do not have the know-how of adding more complex widgets to the code. Because of this, 9 out of 10 bloggers rely on Adsense when trying to monetize their pages. Indeed, Adsense does offer some great advantages, but then it’s also not always the best solution when looking for adding value to customers.
Travelgrove’s new widget is solving these problems, by building a simple plugin, that can be customized as the blogger wishes. The box looks like a simple airfare search box, but features all the latest Ajax code to help users with their entries. In addition, the tool allows users to search several sites directly from their blog, thus keeping in line with one of the key ideas of blogging – objectiveness. Users can easily search and find the best fares, depending on which country they are visiting from (geo-targeting), so for example a user from Germany will see merchants from Germany.
In addition, Travelgrove runs a neat interface on Wordpress, so when people install the plugin, they can select their date format, the default dates (i.e. departure date is today’s date + 5 days), color themes and sizes. Implementation is just as easy. The travel search plugin integrates with the standard WYSIWYG editor when posting. So clicking on a little orange icon inside the editor will allow the user to select the box of his choice to directly add to a post. A more advanced option is to use a “shortcode”, something that needs to be integrated in the html file of the Wordpress theme.
All in all, Travelgrove’s “travel search” plugin integrates very easily with any Wordpress theme and can be a nice added value to customers as well as a great way to monetize a blog. You can read more about the plugin functionality at http://labs.travelgrove.com/wordpress-plugins/travel-search/. In order download and test the plugin, you may also get it directly from inside your Wordpress plugin search, simply look for “travelgrove travel search”.
