The new website represents our city well and helps us tell our story to visitors and citizens alike.
Cedar Park, TX (PRWEB) May 01, 2012
After undergoing an “extreme website makeover,” the City of Cedar Park has launched its new city website. The new site features not only a fresh design with easy-to-use navigation features, but also the new domain name http://www.CedarParkTexas.gov. The website was publicly unveiled on Thursday, April 19th at the Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony of the new City Hall Campus at 450 Cypress Creek Road.
The former City website was more than five years old and in need of a technological and design overhaul. This new design is the result of a year of collaboration with various City website stakeholders. An eight-person committee representing City Council, citizens, business owners and city staff chose Vision Internet out of fourteen proposals and three finalists to design and host the site. They solicited the public to participate in an online survey late last year to help guide the website’s design, features, and overall feel. The community enthusiastically responded, completing 132 surveys.
“The new website represents our city well and helps us tell our story to visitors and citizens alike,” says Cedar Park City Council Member Don Tracy who served on the committee.
Some of the unique features of CedarParkTexas.gov include a crisp, clean homepage graphic design with rotating banner photos that will be updated frequently. The navigation tabs labeled Residents, Visitors, Businesses, City Government, and I Want To each feature a unique pull-down menu to help the website visitor get to his or her desired destination. The site also features a Google-powered site search as well as a link to Report a Problem. The site can be translated into Spanish by clicking en español. It is fully Section 508 compliant for ease of use by the disabled.
CedarParkTexas.gov showcases current City news and events through the In the Spotlight section along with front page menus for News, Upcoming Events and Calendar. When City staff post a news item, staff has the option to automatically update the City’s Facebook and Twitter feeds. Those feeds, along with the City’s other social media, may be accessed directly from the website home page with just one click. The user interactive experience is further enhanced with four buttons for frequently visited areas of the website: Volunteer, Jobs, Emergency Information and Construction Projects. The City has the ability to perform analytics on the new website to see what areas are most frequently visited and re-prioritize information accordingly.
With the launch behind them, the city is now going through a post-launch process asking residents to explore the new site and provide feedback to further improve the site. They are encouraging web visitors to utilize the “Report a Problem” link at the top of the homepage to respond with constructive comments and suggestions.
